What can I expect from sessions?
our initial appointment is an opportunity to meet your psychologist, discuss current concerns, and explore your support needs. It also allows us to gather relevant background and developmental history. By the end of the first appointment, your psychologist will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your goals. The number and frequency of sessions vary based on each individual’s needs.
How long are appointments?
Sessions at Brave Steps Psychology typically last between 45 to 50 minutes. Due to our personalised services, we operate by appointment only and are unable to accommodate walk-ins.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please inform us by phone or email at least two business days (Monday-Friday) before your scheduled appointment. This allows us to offer your time to another client. Please note that cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, will incur the full consultation fee. Unfortunately, charges for late cancellations and missed appointments cannot be claimed through Medicare or private health funds.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
No referral is needed to access our services, including individual therapy or assessment. However, a referral and/or Mental Health Care Plan is required if you wish to claim a rebate through Medicare.
Can parents or caregivers attend sessions with their child?
Yes, for young children, we encour in age parents or caregivers to be involved in sessions. This helps ensure we are working collaboratively to support your child’s development and progress. We will discuss and tailor the level of involvement based on your child’s age and therapeutic needs.
What types of concerns do you commonly work with?
We provide support for a range of concerns, including anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, mood disorders, social skills challenges, and specific learning difficulties. If you have questions about whether we can help with your specific concerns, please reach out.
How do I know if my child or I need an assessment?
If you’re noticing developmental, behavioural, or academic challenges, an assessment may help provide clarity. During your initial interview, your psychologist will discuss any relevant symptoms or concerns and determine whether an assessment is appropriate.
Do you offer Telehealth appointments?
Yes, we offer Telehealth appointments for clients who are unable to attend in person. Telehealth options can be discussed during your initial appointment to determine suitability.
